    PRESERVING THE OLD STATE HOUSE

The Old State House is Boston’s oldest public building (1713) and is widely regarded as one of the most significant sites in the nation. The Old State House was the crucible of new ideas and bold actions that boiled over into the American Revolution, and many of the basic principles of American democracy were first expressed here. John Adams described it as the place where “the child Independence was born.”

The Bostonian Society has developed a plan to stabilize, restore, and create a revolutionary new interpretation for the Old State House. The northeast corner of the building was successfully stabilized in 2006, but the work to preserve this iconic structure is far from over. Your contribution to the Old State House Restoration Fund will help the Society complete critical repairs and share the remarkable story of the building’s role in the nation’s founding narrative.
