Donating Items to the Collections
The Bostonian Society is building a collection which is truly representative of the history of the Old State House, 18th-century Boston, and Boston's role in the American Revolution. Donations of library material and museum artifacts, as well as financial contributions, play a critical role in this effort.
We are working to build a collection that contributes to the greater scholarship of 18th-century Boston, and so the Society is currently only accepting items that luminate the 18th-century history of Boston, and particularly Boston's role in the American Revolution. The Society accepts artifacts and works of art, as well as as well as library and archival material, including books, maps, and manuscripts.
Collections are available for research purposes, within the bounds of responsible care. The Library is open by appointment, and serves a wide variety of researchers, including academic, public, and students. Annually, the Library greets approximately 1,000 researchers and answers another 3,000 questions by telephone and mail. Museum artifacts are also available for research use, by appointment.
If you are interested in donating items to the Society, please contact the Collections Manager. If you are interested in making a financial contribution, please contact the Director of Development.
