Reference Services
Reference requests can be submitted online, by mail, or by phone (617-720-1713). Priority is given to requests from members, and for photograph orders. The reference staff responds to inquiries in the order in which they are received. Responses should be expected within 7-10 business days. Please submit your questions through our Reference Request Form, or by emailing our Collections Manager.
The Bostonian Society’s library is open to researchers
by appointment only. To request an appointment, please email our
Collections Manager with a list of the resources you wish to view. A full catalog of our library holdings can be browsed
here. Bostonian Society members are given priority in making appointments for visits, which are contingent upon staff availability and the physical condition of materials. Visits are limited to two hours, with a fee of $10.00 for non-members; members are free. Please review our
library rules prior to your visit.
We also offer a Resource Guide to Boston-area sources for the most common research topics.
A $10.00 donation is appreciated for research completed through online services.
