The library and archives is a closed-stack repository with a small staff, so we must limit our reference services to questions that pertain to the topics of the history of the Old State House, eighteenth- century Boston, Boston's role in the American Revolution, and to questions that relate directly to our manuscripts collection and photographs. The library staff responds to inquiries in the order in which they are received, and responses should be expected within 7-10 business days. Please submit your questions through our Reference Request Form below, by e-mailing our library, or by calling us at 617-720-1713 ext. 130.
Research in our Library
The Bostonian Society’s library is open to researchers by appointment only. To request an appointment, please email our archivist with a list of the resources you wish to view. A full catalog of our library holdings can be browsed here. Appointments are contingent upon staff availability and the physical condition of materials. Admittance to the library is free, but we would welcome a $10.00 donation for services. Please review our library rules prior to your visit.
